ARTIST STATEMENT
I’m lucky to have an ability to see beyond the ordinary and turn the mundane into the exotic. I’m enticed by the play of light on land and the interaction of nature’s colours and tones. I interpret the English Landscape in my own unique way, using my knowledge of the physical properties of oil paint, I structure and layer the paint on canvas to build towards an exciting finish.
I'm inspired by many artists and all genres of work. The post-Impressionists, in particular, the Expressionists, the Fauves, Van Gogh, J.W.Turner, Joan Eardley David Hockney, the St Ives group and many, many more. I'm enticed by the way early artist such as Johan Barthold Jongkind captured the light and drama of the landscape.
I really want to portray the personality and emotion of the artist rather than create a replication of the landscape.
